Three school boundary changes are under consideration by the Board of Education of the Jordan School District. Two changes would be implemented for Fall of 2021 and one change in Fall of 2022:
For the 2021-22 school year:
- First, a boundary change to accommodate a new elementary school currently under construction in South Jordan. This new school will require a boundary change involving Bastian Elementary and undeveloped areas in the boundary of Golden Fields Elementary. Two options for adjusting elementary school boundaries in this area have been approved for public survey.
- Second, a boundary change between South Jordan Elementary and Jordan Ridge Elementary to balance enrollment between these schools and allow South Jordan Elementary to move to a traditional calendar. Three options for adjusting elementary school boundaries in this area have been approved for public survey.
For the 2022-23 school year:
- A boundary change to accommodate a new elementary school planned for construction in west Herriman, expected to open in Fall 2022. This new school will require a boundary change involving Bastian Elementary, Butterfield Canyon Elementary, Herriman Elementary, and Silver Crest Elementary. Two options for adjusting elementary school boundaries in this area have been approved for public survey.
No secondary schools will be impacted by these proposed changes.
Below you will find information about the process for adjusting school boundaries and how to give feedback to the Board of Education regarding the three boundary change proposals under consideration. Virtual open houses will be held for the public to review the boundary options and ask questions of Jordan School District staff involved in the process. The same information presented on this website will be available at the open houses. Patrons do not need to participate in an open house to give feedback. All feedback can be given online through the survey at any time.

- October 28-29: Virtual open houses
- November 2: Public survey closes
- November 10: Survey results and recommendations presented to School Board; public hearing on proposed boundaries.
- November 24: Final boundaries approved.

Virtual Open Houses
Patrons who were unable to attend a virtual open house may contact boundary@jordandistrict.org with their questions or concerns.
Because of limitation and concerns related to large public gatherings due to COVID-19, boundary open houses will be held in a virtual format. All meetings will be held using the Zoom video conference platform. One virtual open house will be held for each boundary change proposal. An additional virtual open house will be held for those who were not able to attend one of the previous meetings.
The information that will be presented at the virtual open houses is identical to the information available on this website. Patrons will also have the opportunity to present questions to District staff.

- South Jordan and Jordan Ridge: Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00-7:15 PM
- Daybreak Village 8: Wednesday, October 28, from 7:30-8:45 PM
- West Herriman: Thursday, October 29, from 6:00-7:15 PM

Q: Why is a boundary being established for a new elementary school in South Jordan / Herriman?
A: A new elementary school in South Jordan will open in Fall of 2021 to address increasing growth and enrollment at surrounding elementary schools. This will help manage student growth and balance boundary student population at all four schools.
Q: Why are boundaries being proposed for a school in west Herriman before construction has even begun?
A: Some families may live in areas that will be impacted by both boundary changes. Presenting both changes now allows all those impacted to know what the entire process and timeline will be and how many changes they may have.
Q: What is the process and timeline for determining boundaries?
A: Boundary options have been developed by District staff and approved by the Board of Education to be surveyed by the public. These options, and the accompanying information, will be posted online for the next several weeks.
The public is encouraged to give feedback regarding these options at the open houses or using the survey section below. At the open houses, patrons will have the opportunity to discuss the boundary options being considered. Following the open houses and a period of public feedback through the online survey, Board members will review a summary report of feedback received by the close of the online survey. The same information presented on the website will also be made available at the open houses. Patrons do not need to attend the open houses to give feedback, since all feedback can be given online through the survey at any time.
Q: What factors are considered in establishing boundaries?
A: Many factors are considered, including, but not limited to, feedback from parents, students, and the community, long-term implications, natural boundaries, feasibility and functionality, student safety, cost, community partnerships, potential growth, and student enrollment numbers over time.
Q: How will the input from my survey be used?
A: The feedback provided will be carefully reviewed by District staff. A summary report of feedback received will be provided to and reviewed by the Board of Education before a final decision is made regarding boundaries. The Board will also receive a copy of every open-ended response submitted through the survey.
Q: Who will qualify for busing under each boundary option?
A: Once new boundaries are established for the new elementary school, the District’s Transportation Department will begin to establish busing routes for all schools involved. The state of Utah requires that busing be provided for elementary school students who live 1.5 miles or more from school. Busing eligibility for students who are not directly affected by a boundary change would remain the same. Students on an Open Enrollment permit do not qualify for busing except through a space available permit (limited availability depending on location).
